Options for Financial Discount:
The Starter Pack is free to the service user. The referral partner is asked to pay a financial contribution to cover part of the cost of the pack.
Office is on the ground floor with no steps to access it. Toilets are not wheelchair accessible. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet in one of our shops The Magpie’s Eye, two doors down, also on the ground floor with no steps to access it. For people with sight problems we have chairs very close to the entrance so people would not need to walk far to get a seat once they are inside the building. For British Sign Language users coming to the office it would be best to bring an interpreter, however Jacqui, our admin assistant, is hearing, has verbal communication in fluent English and has very basic BSL and fingerspelling abilities. Graham, our pack room assistant is profoundly deaf so has no verbal communication and is a fluent BSL user.
Process to obtain i.e Referral/Non Referral:
Referrals to be made by one of our referral partners via phone or email (predominantly housing associations but also employability organisations and mental health organisations). Feel free to call us to check if a specific housing association or organisation is one of our partners. We do not have specific qualifying criteria for the person or family to receive a pack from us, however the organisation making the referral may have their own criteria for who they refer for a pack.
Typical items in a pack include kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, glasses, mugs, oven dish, pot, pan, cooking utensils, tin opener, washing up liquid, antibacterial spray, scourers, cloths, tea towels, duvet, duvet covers, bed sheet, hand towel, bath towel, shower gel, shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet rolls. If there are children in the household we try to add either a toy or book too and baby wipes and nappies for newborns.
Pack contents can vary depending upon availability of items.
At the time of writing, 25/01/18, we also add a voucher for our shops into our packs.
If you are looking to meet new people and gain new skills and confidence, we have various volunteering opportunities available for example sorting donations, keeping the shop floors tidy and fully stocked, assisting our van team with collections and deliveries and assisting with admin tasks in our office.
